August: Osage County features great opportunities for actors, and thankfully a cavalcade of brilliant actors breathes life into these intricate and multi-layered characters. There really isn’t a weak link in the cast, but Streep, Roberts and Cooper deserve to be singled out. Not far behind them are Martindale, Nicholson and Cumberbatch.
The film is set around a hundred years into the future, when Earth has managed to withstand a prolonged attack from the ‘Formics’, an insect-like alien race. In order to pre-empt future attacks, children are trained to become military tacticians.
The premise is simple: Jordan (Halle Berry) is a veteran 911 call operator who has suffered emotionally on the job after a call she was on lead to the kidnapping and brutal murder of a young girl.
