Disney is betting big on its streaming solution called Disney plus and will pull back its popular animated titles from Netflix and other platforms. The move was first announced by the house of mouse that they are looking to establish its own space in the streaming market with the launch of an on-demand solution. We have been seeing the speculation and rumors revolving around the upcoming service and at the Disney Investor day that speculation turned into a promise that the platform’s actual launch is near. The Disney plus is Walt Disney’s brand new streaming service that is an adversary to industry giants Netflix, Apple TV Plus (Apple’s new streaming service) and HBO Now. Disney is planning to launch its live streaming service on November 12th, 2019 in the US. As you can see, the timing of the big launch is a strategic and smart move. Disney plus can be a great platform for marketing efforts for Disney films that are to be premiered for the upcoming holiday season like Frozen 2 that is going to hit theatres on November 22nd. It can also extend the marketing for Star Wars- Episode IX that is to be released on December 20th. On a global scale, Disney is planning for a progressive roll out over two years.

Disney yet hasn’t provided exact timelines when it would roll out in the major regions of the world expect its launch in the US. For example, the service will release in North America, (which also includes Canada) anytime during the last months of 2019. But the actual date is not evident.

Disney said its monthly subscription will cost around $7 per month or $70 for 12 months. The price plan undercuts Netflix’s $13 fee per month for its popular plan that allows you to stream on two different devices at the same time. Disney’s Chief finance head, Christine M. McCarthy, gave a hint that $7 would be initial pricing and the brand might raise the price as the service advances. Disney also said that it might combine Disney plus with ESPN plus and Hulu by providing exciting offers when you subscribe to all of these streaming platforms.

Disney specified that it would offer support for PlayStation 4 and Roku TV too. It is also said that Netflix is winding down its relationship with Disney completely and Disney will give up around $300 million a year in licensing fees from Netflix. However, licensing can get complicated and some reports indicate that Disney might return those movies to Netflix and remove them from Disney plus.
